Dutch Classic Yacht Week is a classic yacht regatta held in the historic maritime town of Enkhuizen.

The event promises to deliver an exceptional experience for vintage classic yachts, bringing back the grandeurof the past.

The Dutch Classic Yacht Week (DCYW) is an invitation event for ‘Classic Yachts’, 'Old Gaffers' & ‘Spirit of Tradition (S.O.T)’ yachts.

We are happy welcome BESTO as a friend of the DCYW 2025, supporting the largest classic yacht regatta in The Netherlands.

Besto was founded in 1920 by Mr. van der Belt and Mr. van der Stouwe and named after the owners. Situated in a little town called “Zwartsluis” near the former inland Sea “ Zuiderzee”. At the start of the company, there was a strong focus on producing collision bags, now called fenders, made from rattan and cork filling. Next was the manufacturing of lifejackets & buoys for the professional & Inland navigation shipping. The raw
materials used then were mainly cotton, kapok and cork. A new era started when Besto started creating and supplying products for a new and upcoming use, namely for sports & leisure. Modern designs were made. New materials where used, like Polyethylene foam and Synthetic fabrics.

The company name was then changed into BESTO. And the base for the future of Besto was born. Besto is now a synonym for Comfort, Safety & Quality with a wide range of lifesaving products.

Today, more than a 100years later Besto still is one of the leaders in buoyancy aids and lifejackets. Due to qualified product research, continuous perfection of the optimal body fit and customers bespoke wishes, while using only top materials, Besto lifejackets are of the highest quality and safety level.

Bob Kat II - International 6 metre
Bob Kat II was designed by Olin Stephens in 1931, when he was only 22, for Bob Meyer. Her name was a combination of those of her two owners, Bob and his wife Katherine. Meyer was captain of the 1932 US team for the British-American Cup, where Bob Kat was the top scorer in the winning US team. She again formed one of the team for 1934, again being top scorer, and defended the Seawanhaka Cup for the US, beating Kyla in three straight races.

By 1937 she was based at Marblehead, Mass, owned by John S. Lawrence and by the mid 1940s she had been sold to California, where she spent the next 55 years. By 1944 Bob Kat II was fitted with a cruising style cabin and small engine which allowed her to take part in offshore racing. She was a resident of Newport Harbor and at the San Diego Yacht Club (SDYC).

From 1948 until at least 1962 she was owned by Ernest Kaiser of Newport Harbor. Around a dozen sixes were actively sailed out of various southern California ports at this time. Boats from Newport Harbor, San Diego, and Los Angeles continued to race occasionally from the war years until the mid-70s. Other members of the fleet included Saleema, Mystery, May Be II, Tidsfordriv (‘Honey’), Caprice, and others. At some point Bob Kat II was sold to San Diego and renamed twice, ‘Angelina’ then ‘Sceptre’.

She languished at the San Diego Yacht Club until 2003 when Doug Peterson purchased Bob Kat II from a fellow San Diego Yacht Club member and had her shipped to Porto Santo Stefano, Italy. Here she was restored to her full racing potential.

S/Y Alert
Commissioned by K.K. Betchel & launched in 1948 by the famous W.F. Stone & Sons Shipyard at Blanding Avenue in Alameda. Alert was constructed wihtout the use of steel.

ALBERT

Albert was launched in 1906 as a sailing fishing vessel in Boston, England, at the shipyard of A.M. Gostelow with the fishing number BN127. Between 1906 and 1978 she fished from Boston, Grimsby and Kings Lynn. In 1979 she was removed from the fishing register and set sail for London to be converted into a sailing yacht. Unfortunately this journey ended in Great Yarmouth where she lay as a wreck on the banks of the River Yare for 5 years before being taken to Melton on the River Deben by a young aspiring shipbuilder for a complete restoration. Unfortunately he was unable to complete this job. After two more changes of owner, the now bare and tired hull was transferred to Lelystad in 2002. Here the hull of the Albert was completely restored in the period 2002-2014 and finally, 36 years later than intended, the conversion to a pleasure yacht was completed.

CAPELLA of BURNHAM
She was built in 1960 by E W Sutton in Great Wakering to Lloyds 100A1 specification. The owner had a special interest in the building process which is reflected in the materials which were used. CAPELLA was built as a sister ship to Vashti and is one of six Vashti class ocean racers that were built in the late 1950’s/early 1960’s. The Vasthi class was one of Buchanan's most successful design for the RORC III class.

CAPELLA was very successful in her first year of racing, beating all her sisters winning the Town cup in 1960 and voted Yachting Monthly boat of the year, featuring front page in November 1960.

MUSCHKA
Muschka, part of Dutch Sailing Heritage, was originally built in Germany but was sold in her early years to A. Verkade, founder of the famous Dutch cookie factory. She quickly gained fame as one of the first yachts with a sloop rig, proving tough to beat. Designed for both inshore and offshore racing, Muschka served as a sparring partner for the Dutch 8mR campaign Hollandia. During the war, she was confiscated and returned in poor condition, but after the war, she was converted into a cruiser. Owned by the Van Leeuwen family for the past 50 years, she has been restored and refitted into the competitive racer/cruiser she is today.
Muschka is a well-known presence on Dutch waters, with a rich history of racing success, including multiple victories in the Hoek van Holland–Harwich race, North Sea Regatta, Dutch Classic Yacht Regatta, and more recently the Markerwadden Rally, Kustzeilers 24-hour Race, and Windmill Cup.
