Classic Class

A ‘Classic Yacht’, for the purpose of the Regatta, is a sleek monohull design, built in wood, steel or aluminium to a pre-1965 design by traditional build methods.
Such yachts include, but not restricted to, international meter yachts like 8mR, 6mR, 5.5mR, Gaff rigs, Day Boats, International Dragons (wooden), National Cruiser Classes, Skerry Cruisers, Pilot Cutters, West-Solent OD, Vashti Class, KR classes, Old Gaffers Association, Custom one-offs etc.

Subject to entries received each year, it is the intention to sub-divide yachts into various divisions for racing. This interesting format allows for exciting and close racing between classic yachts who may not normally race against each other.
Divisions can be found below.

Spirit of Tradition Class

A ‘Spirit of Tradition or ‘S.O.T’, for the purpose of the Regatta, is a spirit of tradition yacht built of any material post 1965, in the spirit of, or to the appearance of a ‘Classic Yacht’.

The DCYW is a celebration for all classic yachts, even those who are not thoroughbred  racers. This open class welcomes yachts of all sizes who may not be race optimised. We set shorter courses for this class, allowing fun racing without long upwind legs.
